Abstract

Introduction

Clinical Practice Guidelines aim to translate the best available scientific evidence into concrete recommendations that facilitate and optimize decision-making in the healthcare field.

Objective

To describe the methodology for the development of the Guideline for periodontal treatment in patients with diabetes mellitus and to substantiate, from an academic standpoint, its rigor and relevance as a tool intended to address an existing clinical gap.

Authors’ Position

The authors argue that only a rigorous, structured, and transparent methodology—based on the critical appraisal of evidence, multidisciplinary consensus, and active patient participation—can generate reliable clinical recommendations in complex areas such as the interrelationship between diabetes and periodontal disease. They support this approach as an indispensable reference framework to reduce variability in care and improve health outcomes.

Conclusions

The authors maintain that the methodology employed in the preparation of this Guideline was rigorous, structured, and transparent, which supports the validity of its recommendations and their applicability in real clinical contexts.
