Abstract

Aunque la misión clásica de los hospitales ha sido prestar una atención médica de calidad a casos complejos, que no pueden ser resueltos en la atención primaria de salud, cada vez más otras dos funciones se han agregado con no menos intensidad: servir como escenario docente y como área propicia para la planificación y ejecución de investigaciones dirigidas a mejorar la práctica clínica que se realiza en estas instituciones. Se ha elaborado y llevado a la práctica, por aproximaciones sucesivas, un modelo sistémico de organización de las actividades de ciencia e innovación tecnológica, que integra los modernos conceptos en este campo, con las necesidades emergentes de nuestras instituciones hospitalarias en la gestión clínica. La presentación de nuestra experiencia es el objeto de este trabajo.
