Hasta el 2007, el virus chikungunya solo estuvo presente en África, Asia y la India. En ese año, la transmisión del virus se reportó por primera vez en Europa, en el norte de Italia. En diciembre de 2013, la OPS/OMS obtuvo la confirmación de los primeros casos de transmisión autóctona del chikungunya en las Américas.
El Boletín pone a disposición, bibliografía actualizada sobre el diagnóstico, prevención y control de ésta enfermedad.
