Testimonio histórico y revolucionario del autor sobre el “El Calixto”, como lo ha denominado el pueblo a través de los años de servicios médicos prestados. Se rememora sus luchas estudiantiles y asistenciales durante la dictadura y el período revolucionario y se recuerda a sus principales protagonistas. Fue no solo el hospital donde esa generación aprendió medicina y a atender enfermos, sino también donde se hacía revolución, para combatir a la dictadura, sobre todo después del 26 de julio de 1953, en que Fidel con su ejemplo, indicó a la juventud cubana el camino a seguir.
