Priorities and challenges of primary health care in Matanzas province, Cuba

Introduction: Primary health care is the main public health strategy. The sequels and affectations left by the COVID-19 pandemic have led the health systems of the world to renew themselves and for this reason Cuba is developing a process of strengthening family medicine. The province of Matanzas is in the process of perfecting the actions to achieve the objectives set.
Objective: To support the priorities of primary health care in the province of Matanzas, Cuba.
Author's position: The health situation analysis used as a scientific and methodological tool for decision making from the base and at all levels is the process that guarantees epidemiological surveillance, monitoring of social health determinants, disease prevention, health promotion, as well as intersectoral collaboration and effective digital communication.
Conclusions: The analysis of the health situation, epidemiological surveillance, control monitoring of social determinants in health, health promotion and preventive activities with the community, and the effective application of intersectoriality and information and communication technologies constitute the priorities and challenges of primary health care in Matanzas.
