Introduction: At the 70th General Assembly of the World Health Organization it was stated that "all roads lead to universal health coverage and only half of the people in the world have such access". Universal health coverage means that all individuals and communities have equitable access to the comprehensive and guaranteed health services they need throughout their lives. In this way, people can develop their maximum health potential, regardless of their position or circumstances determined by social factors.
Objective: To show the Cuban model based on Primary Health Care that provides an answer to universal health coverage for sustainable development.
Results: The political will of the Cuban State, the founding principles of Cuban public health and the integral development of the National Health System were appreciated in the results, which are based on Primary Health Care as access and universal health coverage. This allowed Cuba to arrive in Astana with the Alma-Ata goals met in advance and committed to the Sustainable Development Goals.
