Validation of an Educational Strategy in Prison Settings: an Innovative Approach to Health Management
Keywords:

Introduction: The validation of methodologies, protocols, classifications, strategies, and other scientific results ensures that the work undertaken meets rigorous standards and is based on reliable evidence.
Objective: To demonstrate the validation process of a questionnaire to evaluate an educational strategy based on oral self-care among older inmates.
Methods: Between 2019 and 2020, a methodological study was conducted to validate a set of educational materials and an educational strategy in two penitentiary units in the province of Camagüey. The sample design was stratified probabilistic, and the sample consisted of 60 patients. Five specialists were selected for the technical validation of the educational materials, and a pilot study was conducted with 15 randomly selected inmates. Eight experts were selected to validate the appearance and content. To this end, a four-dimensional, 11-item questionnaire and instructions were developed, to which the CVC was applied. Cronbach's alpha coefficient was also calculated.
Results: In the pilot test results, the educational materials obtained scores between 98% and 100% in each of the criteria. The questionnaire was considered understandable and accurate. The mean score for all items was above 4.4; the probability of error was 0.00032, and the CVC scores were greater than 0.85 in all dimensions.
Conclusions: The results support the importance of validating educational materials and strategies to ensure their effectiveness.
