Authors

Abstract

Introduction. Graduate training through master’s programs is key for the sustainable development of public health in Cuba. The project “Master’s Academic Training for Health Professionals: Interdisciplinarity, Virtuality, and Quality Management for Sustainable Development” reflects the priority of quality management at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana. Current regulations focus on programs with a research orientation, which highlights the need to adjust indicators according to the main activity orientation of each master’s program.

Objective. To identify quality pattern indicators and evaluation guide elements of master’s programs that are recommended for modification considering the orientation of their main activity.

Methods. A documentary analysis was conducted on the current evaluation and accreditation system norms in the Republic of Cuba, as well as the postgraduate regulations and manual. A survey was applied to members of academic committees of master’s programs at the University of Medical Sciences of Havana during the first semester of 2025.

Results. The findings revealed the need to adapt indicators for programs oriented toward activities other than research, emphasizing differences in their assessment.

Discussion. Suggested modifications focus on indicators related to the dimensions of faculty, infrastructure, and curriculum.

Conclusions. Adapting indicators according to the main activity orientation will contribute to relevant evaluations, improving quality management of the programs and promoting their sustainability.
