Irrational use of medicines
Keywords:
underutilization, waste, expired, medicines, irrational use, healthAbstract
Introduction: Globalization has favored the commercialization of medicines which poses challenges for people and health systems in terms of the adequate, rational and equitable use of these health resources. Objective: To describe some issues related to the irrational use of medicines that evoke reflection.
Methods: Qualitative and descriptive research was carried out by selecting scientific publications with the help of keywords on Internet sites. A critical analysis of the articles was carried out and the development of this work was structured in five sections.
Results: Inadequate access to medicines has facilitated under-utilization and irrational use, in a wide percentage range that varies from one place to another and that together with the lack of therapeutic adherence by people and the passive role of professionals of health due to lack of assertive actions, the incentive of pollution of the environment is favored and this can affect the health of living beings.
Conclusions: The irrational use of health resources threatens the health of living organisms, which requires adequate actions.
