Recommendations for the care of the mental health of Cuban health personnel before the COVID-19

Introduction: The recent pandemic caused by COVID-19, has generated a high demand for health services and therefore, care provided by healthcare personnel facing a situation of this magnitude for the first time. Among priorities of the World Health Organization in this situation, it is proposed to prioritize the protection of health workers.Objective: To propose recommendations for the mental health care of health care and support personnel facing the new coronavirus epidemic.
Development: A database documentary revision included in SciELO Cuba and regional services, thesis of the Master's program in Health Psychology and the Doctorate in Health Sciences of the National School of Public Health, specialized magazines and guides and documents of international organisms related to the care of mental health of health professionals and the COVID-19, was carried out.
Conclusions: A document is presented with a simple and understandable language that addresses three aspects: 1. The challenges faced by health personnel during the COVID-19 epidemic; 2. Reactions in intense stress situations; 3. General recommendations for health personnel self-care.
