The message of the white rose, an ethical guide for dealing with mega-disasters
Keywords:
Megadisasters, concept and classification, golden rule of Ethics, principle of the White Rose Martians for confronting pandemicsAbstract
Introduction: The World Wars highlighted the impact of stress on health, and the current covid-19 pandemic, highlights from now on, the relevance of compassionate solidarity without borders - paradigmatic expression of ethics in situations of major disasters. Objective: To propose some reflections on the meaning of ethical training in the response of government decision makers to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Positioning: Criteria basically derived from the ethical roots of the Cuban nationality, valued with a logical dialectic thought, guided by principles of objectivity, multi-factoriality, and transforming social practice, as well as by the direct or bibliographic influence of our national and foreign teachers.
Conclusions: After conceptualizing and classifying mega-disasters, and reflecting on the prototypes of state responses to the pandemic that we are dealing with, we consider it evident that the ideal response is that of countries moved by compassionate solidarity towards other nations, and without taking into account their condition as allies or adversaries. This is the essence of Martí's message from La rosa blanca, and also of the founding inspirational motto of our Henry Reeve contingent, which is: "Solidarity without borders".
