Considerations on management of surgical patients during the epidemic of COVID-19 in Cuba
Keywords:

The elective surgical activity stopped in Cuba at the end of March and the hospitals were divided into those designed to face the COVID 19 and those with surgical units aimed at treatment of urgent and oncological patients. This paper aims at providing information related to surgical treatment during COVID-19. The review looks in depth at questions such as: when to consider that an urgent condition requires surgical intervention, in which cancer patients surgery can be safely deferred and for how long, what type of surgery to perform, and what level of protection is necessary depending on the patients to be operated on. It is concluded that the possibility of a prolongation of the epidemic, not predictable in time, will impose the need of evaluating new standards in surgical practice.Downloads
