Validation of the QLQ-C30 Quality of Life Questionnaire for Different Types of Cancer

Introduction: Health-related quality of life or perceived health is the person's subjective assessment of his or her illness, treatment and well-being. The QLQ-C30 questionnaire is applied to cancer patients.
Objectives: To evaluate the metric properties of the QLQ-C30 questionnaire in Cuban cancer patients.
Methods: The sample consisted of 1785 patients to whom the QLQ-C30 questionnaire was applied. Of these, 1107 patients participated in five lung cancer clinical trials, 279 patients in three head and neck trials, 113 patients in two prostate cancer trials, 146 patients in two breast cancer trials and 140 patients in one cervical cancer trial. Cronbach's alpha of the items was used to assess reliability. Cronbach's alpha of the dimensions was used to assess internal consistency.
Results: There was good stability over time, since Cronbach's alpha was greater than 0.7 for all items. Internal consistency was good as Cronbach's alpha value was above 0.7 for all dimensions.
Conclusions: The QLQ-C30 questionnaire presented good metric properties in Cuban cancer patients.
