Introduction: The Family Doctor and Nurse Program was created in Cuba in 1984, in a context with a better hygienic-sanitary situation, being the non- communicable diseases the first cause of mortality, which together with a technical and professional improvement led to the creation of the Family Medicine Model and the Integral General Medicine specialty. Objective: To demonstrate results, after more than 35 years of creating the program, with selected indicators of quality.
Method: An analytical, retrospective, quantitative and qualitative study of the behavior of health indicators in two provinces of Cuba, Camagüey and Villa Clara was carried out; the country's results were taken as reference. Theoretical research methods were used. The period from 1984 to 2019 was evaluated.
Results: Decrease of children mortality in children under 1 and 5 years old, index of low weight at birth, abortions and maternal mortality was highlighted. The number of consultations per inhabitant and life expectancy increased.
Conclusions: There was similarity in behavior between the two provinces in correspondence with the country, except for maternal mortality, where negative results are observed in the province of Camagüey.
